Story: The movie opens in the year of 1984 on Basavatarakam (Vidya Balan) under treatment for cancer at Adayar Hospital, Madras. Hari Krishna (Kalyan Ram) worrying about his mother health and When Basavatarakam is in treatment, she starts recalling the memories by seeing an album. Later he tries hard to get into movies and become a popular hero and how he develops his bond with ANR (Sumanth) after doing many films on screens, he decides to give it back to the society. He steps into politics and the movie ends with NTR announcing Telugu desam Party.

Performances: Nandamuri Balakrishna as legendary actor NTR looks perfect he has done fantastic job as NTR, especially in the movie second half, some getups of his father like Lord Krishna’s avatar and several roles like in Bobbili Puli, Vetagadu he is impressive. Bollywood National award-winning actress Vidya Balan has done excellent work in Basavatharakam’s role. Sumanth as ANR does a brilliant job. Nandamuri Kalyan Ram is good in his father’s Hari Krishna’s role. Prakash Raj and Murali Sharma are superb in the roles of Nagireddy and Chakrapani. Rana is apt in the role of Chandrababu Naidu. The movie other casts Nitya Menon as Savitri, Pranitha Subash as Krishna Kumari, Hansika as Jaya Prada, Rakul Preet Singh as Sridevi, and many others are shines in their roles of great actors.

Technical Aspects: NTR Kathanayakudu music composed by M.M.Keeravani has provided fantastic background score and the songs are situational which sync to the movie flow. Cinematography by Gnanvel Raja is superb, periodic look every frame is nicely presented. Burra Sai Madhav dialogues are the backbone for the movie. Production values are rich. The movie directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, He has done a good job in picking the right moments in the life of NTR.  But he is failed to keeping the audience engaged in the narrative because there is no secret that NT Rama Rao but It could have been shorter, crisper and more entertaining.

Plus Points:

  • Balakrishna Performance
  • Dialogues
  • Back ground Score

Minus Points:

  • Runtime
  • Too much mixture feels like patches
  • Not Enough Emotional Connect

Verdict: NTR Kathanayakudu is uneven, the movie First half runs on a straight line and lengthy It offers only two interesting scenes – the noticeable entry of NTR as Lord Krishna and Lord Venkateshwara, and NTR’s elder son death scene and Second half shows NTR’s bent towards social service and his initial riot. Generally Biopics are allows the audience to get to know real-life characters and their flaws but that is something that NTR Kathanayakudu lacks.  Overall, NTR fans may like the film but for others it is just a one-time watch.
